The UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), an organization formed by the United Nations, has listed what they have named World Heritage Sites.  These are places in the world that have particular value related to the history of humanity and many of these sites can be found in Australia.

Of course, as you may expect, The Great Barrier Reef is one of these sites. Covering an area of approximately 133,000 square miles, the Reef can actually be seen from space and is the world’s largest structure made by living organisms. This site has actually been qualified as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World, and it’s easy to see why when you visit. The inhabitants of the reef are plenty, including over 1,500 species of fish, 30 species of whale and dolphin, and six species of turtles.

The Gondwana Rainforests are another World Heritage Site of Australia. This is one of the rarest and most accurate glimpses into our Earth’s primordial history. Back when Earth’s land was compiled of only two giant landmasses, today’s Australia was included in the southern portion, Gondwana. The rainforests located in Australia today contain the same species as back in the Gondwana of yesterday, giving scientists and visitors alike a window into our Earth’s past.

Historical Australia can be carefully studied by a visit to Melbourne, Australia where you can visit the Royal Exhibition Building.  Built in 1880, it housed the very first Parliament of Australia in 1901.  This World Heritage Site gives the vacationer a glimpse into the early history of the land down under.

In the heart of the Australian desert is another world treasure.  The Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is known for its geographical formations, one of which is the Ayer’s Rock.  This is a sandstone monument stretching 348 meters into the sky and revered by the Australian Aboriginal tribes as being sacred making this location important for natural and cultural purposes.  Its desert location still provides spectacular sites with colorful wildflowers, cacti and green landscapes.

Australia has so much for you and your family to explore. And by taking advantage of convenient US passport services, you can get your passports as soon as you need them. Things like a next day passport application form are available to download, along with any other service you might need. So go ahead and get your passports, the Outback is waiting!
